We are thrilled to announce that at 0800 local time in the Netherlands, the s/y Ruach departed on her 14000 nautical mile voyage to Australia!

A large part of the crew is joining on a voluntary basis. Captain Rob Vos is one of the professionals on board and has been sailing for Redwise since 1982. This company, a world leader in delivering ships, is supplying the professional crew as well as the management of the ship and all that it involves.

The first leg to Tenerife, Canary Islands is expected to take 2-3 weeks, with predominantly headwinds, with more favourable conditions after that as she begins the direct run across the Atlantic to the Panama Canal.

David Stephenson, the managing director of YWAM Ships Newcastle, said the vessel’s departure was a significant moment.

“After months of hard work and preparation, it filled me with great joy to see the crew sail off from The Netherlands just yesterday. It is one giant step towards delivering much needed medical services to the remote regions of Papua New Guinea.”

We depart Europe with deep gratitude to our friends and to so many of you in Europe who have helped us along the way.  We will reach the Australian shores in the next 100 days or so.
